The Beauty of Chinese Characters

Chinese, especially mandarin characters is one of the most beautiful languages in the world. It is timeless, bold, and unconstrained. It retains its specific elegance when read eloquently, its meaning, infinite.

Beauty lies in the Chinese language.

If you don’t learn Chinese, you would miss out on many things. You will not witness the bustling  “the world of mortals.” You won’t be able to empathize with the heartbroken Acacia. You won’t be able to see how misty is Jiangnan, what kind of nostalgia is the bright moon, and how far is the horizon.

Sometimes, we seem to forget how beautiful and elegant Chinese

1. It’s very important to be sincere in Chinese broken sentences

In learning Chinese, breaking sentences is more important than you think. However, breaking it properly is imperative too. If you don’t break sentences properly, you will…

In the folk for many years, “stay on rainy days, stay with me”, different sentences, different meanings, different feelings.

One is: “When it rains, visitors stay; if it rains, I don’t stay.”

The second is: “on rainy days, stay? Days stay, I don’t stay.”

The third is: “rainy days, guest days, stay me?”

The fourth is: “rainy days, guest days, stay? I will not stay!”

Five is: “rainy day, stay the guest day, stay me or not.”

Sometimes, learning to break sentences can save lives.

There is a story about Empress Dowager Cixi who asked a calligrapher to write a fan for her, which was written by Wang Zhihuan.

The Yellow River is far up among the white clouds, a lonely city of ten thousand Ren mountain.

Why should the Qiang flute blame the willows? The spring breeze does not pass the Yumen pass.

However, the calligrapher was nervous, he omitted to write a word of “Jian”. After reading it, Cixi was furious and said, “you tease the AI family, pull your head out and chop it.” At the critical moment, the frightened calligrapher was in a hurry to say that he had only written a small order, but also read it aloud.

Far up the Yellow River, there are white clouds.

There is no need to complain about the Qiang flute.

Willow spring breeze, not over the Yumen pass.

After hearing this, Cixi knew that he was sophistry, but she had no reason to chop off other people’s heads, so she gave up.

2. Different accents mean a lot less.

I don’t know the meaning of spring and autumn.

When it’s cold in winter,

Wear as much as you can.

When it’s hot in summer,

Wear as little as you can.

In the season of wearing trousers, did your mother ask you to go home and wear those?

3. In mandarin characters, a title is derived from “I”.

In Chinese, the expression “I” is completely different due to different identities.

The emperor uses 朕 and 孤, and the queen uses 本宫 or 臣妾

The Empress Dowager uses 哀家, the common people use 鄙人or 草民

The old man uses 老夫, the young man uses 小生

4. One word can tell most things clearly.

In Chinese, there is a magic word for many uses. A simple word “弄”, can “do” everything.

这个锅有点脏,你赶紧弄干净。

This pot is a little dirty. You should clean it up.

头发分叉了,下午去理发店弄下。

My hair is split. I’ll go to the barber in the afternoon.

今天在家大扫除,弄一身灰。

I cleaned up at home today and got a lot of dust.

I’m sure you all understand that, don’t you?

As versatile as this word, there is also the word “刷 brush”.

没事浏览下知乎是“刷知乎”。

No matter what you browse, Zhihu is “brush Zhihu”.

重复考六级是“刷分”。

The repetition of CET-6 is “brushing scores”.

运气爆棚就全靠“刷人品”。

Success depends on “personality”.

淘宝商家最喜欢“刷信誉”。

Taobao merchants like to “brush reputation”.

5. It looks like two words, but it is actually one word.

There are a lot of interesting characters in Chinese characters. They seem to be two separate characters, but they are actually one character.

孬 – Nao

[very bad, that’s coward]

嫑 – Biao

[one-word rejection, or no]

烎 – Y í n

Turn on the fire, that’s the light

槑 – Mei

It’s so silly and naive to be two

囧 – Jiǒng

You think it’s just an emoticon, but it’s really a word

兲 – Tiān

[Wang Ba Yi.]

氼 – nì

[if a person falls into the water, he will drown]

嘦- Yao

[really as long as]

圐圙 – Kūluan

[the grassland surrounded in all directions is said to be a place name]

嘂 – Jia

[four mouths, a little loud]

After talking about these aspects, do you, like the teacher, have taken the beauty of the mandarin characters? Are you stunned, and overwhelmed with the admiration in your heart like a torrent of water?
